HUDSON – State forest rangers have been called in to investigate the cause of a fire Tuesday that burned a field and came within a few yards of a home.

A passer-by noticed the fire at 1876 Hudson Road and called authorities at about 6:15 p.m. When firefighters arrived, a resident was using hand tools to try to extinguish the flames closest to the home, said Assistant Fire Chief Bill Grant of the Hudson Fire Department.

The fire came within about 10 feet of the home, he said.

Firefighters from Hudson, Glenburn and Bradford had the fire under control within 20 minutes, but not before it burned roughly 11/2 to 2 acres, including some woods, Grant said. It also crossed into a neighboring property.
