BANGOR – Megan McCrum’s two-out RBI double in the seventh inning propelled the University of Maine-Farmington softball team to an 8-6 softball victory and a doubleheader sweep of Husson College on Wednesday.
The Beavers won the second game 6-3.
In the first game, Brandi Rideout followed McCrum’s drive into the left-center field gap with an RBI single to give the Beavers some insurance. Rideout had another RBI single earlier in the game.
Megan Carmen got the win in relief, pitching 4 2/3 innings of one-run, one-hit ball with three strikeouts.
Jordan Pruett hit a grand slam in the third inning for the Eagles. Deanna Maxin had an RBI single while Shawna Bell and Carolyn McAvoy each doubled.
In the second game, Stephanie Moriarty went the distance, surrendering just four hits and three earned runs while striking out nine for the Beavers, who scored all of their runs in the third inning.
Kristi Cochin had an RBI double for the Beavers, and McCrum and Rideout each had an RBI single.
Pruett and Nicole Manzo each had an RBI single for Husson.
