BANGOR – This month, Bangor Center Corp.’s beautification committee recognized four Main Street businesses for the attractiveness of their window displays. Officials said that each business received a certificate and recognition on the “feelin’ the beat” page at www.downtownbangor.com.

Clay By Design, 56 Main St., was selected for its attractive and inviting visual presentation, officials said. The store’s window showcases exciting wall colors and an open view of the store’s interior, which, in turn, adds interest and excitement to Main Street.

Main 1 Travel, 64 Main St., was selected for consistently appealing window displays that are dramatic, entertaining, nicely illuminated and changed frequently.

Antique Marketplace & Cafe, 65 Main St., was selected for consistently appealing window displays that are attractive, seasonally appropriate, nicely illuminated and changed frequently.

Downtown resident and professional photographer Edwin Martin, owner of Lumiere Photographic Studio, was recognized by Bangor Center’s liaison committee for his donation of approximately 1,000 of his own photographs to the Bangor Museum and Center for History. Martin’s photographs enhance the museum’s collection and leave an important record for future generations.

Bangor International Airport

Bangor International Airport announced that passenger traffic posted an 8.6-percent increase in March over the same month last year. It marks the best March in a decade for passenger numbers at the airport. Resident airlines at the airport flew 39,162 passengers during March compared with 36,072 a year ago. 100 years of incorporation

A celebration to mark N.H. Bragg and Sons’ 100 years of incorporation will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the business, 92 Perry Road.

Secretary of State Mark Dunlap and the city of Bangor and the Greater Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce will make presentations.

N.H. Bragg and Sons is in its 151st year of operation. The company is still owned and managed by descendents of its founder, Norris Hubbard Bragg. To obtain more information, call 947-8611.

Veterinary nutritional advocate

Amanda Ireland, an advanced certified pet-care technician and co-manager of Bear Brook Kennel in Brewer, has qualified as a veterinary nutritional advocate.

Dixmont

Tourism committee

Sarah Medina of Dixmont has been appointed to serve on the 24-member Maine Tourism Commission, according to an announcement made by Dann H. Lewis, director of the Maine Office of Tourism, a division of the Department of Economic and Community Development.

“Sarah has proven herself an invaluable advocate of some of Maine’s most precious assets. Her tremendous talent to bring people from a variety of backgrounds together for Maine’s common good will serve the commission well,” Lewis said.

Medina is a professional forester and land-use director at Seven Islands Land Co. She administers recreation and management programs, coordinates environmental regulatory activities, and serves as liaison to numerous sporting groups. Providing public accommodation through North Maine Woods Inc. has been her particular interest for more than 30 years.

Medina also is active in the Sportsmen’s Forest Landowner Alliance, served on former Gov. Angus King’s land acquisition priorities advisory committee and is immediate past president of Abnaki Girl Scout Council.
