Guilford man found dead in his apartment

GUILFORD – Investigators are awaiting an autopsy on a Guilford man found dead in his apartment Friday, but a state police spokesman said it appears initially that the death is not suspicious.

The body of Alan Mooers, 51, was found by a friend who went to visit him at the duplex he apparently owns at 22 North Main St., said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Six state police detectives and an assistant medical examiner, Dr. Edward David, were on hand Friday night after Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department officials alerted state police to the body.

McCausland said the body was removed from the home at about 8:30 p.m. and that it hadn’t been determined whether the body would be examined in Augusta or at other facilities. Investigators will be waiting for the results of the exam, although the spokesman said that early on there was nothing that would indicate that the man’s death was suspicious.
