“A scientist in the making” best describes Kyle, who has a strong interest in geology and a large collection of gems and minerals, and a wealth of information about each one.
Kyle also is knowledgeable about dinosaurs and enjoys collecting dinosaur figurines.
Kyle, 11, has brown hair, hazel eyes and a slender build. A healthy child overall, Kyle recently began taking medication for depression-related issues. He also has seasonal allergies.
Kyle has been in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services since April 2002.
Since coming into care, he has always lived in family foster homes and has live in the same home since March 2003. Now in the third grade, Kyle receives special education services to help him be successful in school.
He has difficulty reading social cues and requires coaching in this area.
Following an interest in music, Kyle started playing a recorder at school and enjoys making his own music. He also likes nature and being outdoors and going to the beach, viewing examples of aquatic life and going for long walks in the woods to explore nature in general and ponds in particular.
He is very knowledgeable about the outdoors and loves to go “crabbing.”
Kyle participates in individual weekly therapy. He will continue to require therapy to address his emotions about the challenges of his past. Kyle’s therapy also is focused on helping him deal with frustrations or interference with his plans, an issue that is directly related to his primary diagnosis.
The most appropriate home for Kyle would be a two-parent family or a single-parent environment. He requires a family that can provide an environment with consistency, structure, lots of love, nurturing and clear rules and expectations. Those who work closely with Kyle are assessing whether he should be placed with his younger brother. Kyle has two brothers, and it will be important for him to maintain contact with both siblings as the three boys mature.
Subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.
Kyle is one of 220 Maine children in Maine DHHS care who are seeking an adoptive family. For information about Kyle or other children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.
Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
