CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Ross Cantara hit a three-run home run in the third inning and had a double and two singles to drive in six runs and help the University of Maine to a 13-12 nonconference baseball victory over Boston College at Pellegrini Field on Friday.

Greg Creek had four singles and scored four runs for the Black Bears and Joe Hough had three singles and an RBI. Ryan Quintal doubled and singled with two RBIs and Joel Barrett had three singles and scored three runs.

Jason Delaney hit a home run and a double to drive in two runs for Boston College and Marco Albano had a double and two singles with four RBIs.

At the Winkin Complex in Bangor, Aaron Brideau’s two-run single keyed a three-run second inning as Husson built a 4-1 lead and held on to complete a sweep and sew up a berth in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Travis Tripp’s three-hit shutout sparked the win in the first game and Justin Spencer scored both Husson runs.

Husson improved to 19-13 overall, including a 17-4 mark over its last 21 games. The Eagles are 8-2 in the NAC. Castleton State fell to 17-16 overall, 6-4 in the NAC.

Husson will host Saint Joseph’s of Standish for a NAC twinbill Sunday at noon.

In Friday’s nightcap, singles by Chris McInnis, Billy Kane and Adam Sheehan produced the first run in the second before a Shawn Henderson sacrifice set the stage for Brideau’s two-run hit.

McInnis singled home what proved to be the winning run in the third.

Chris Sargent picked up the win with relief help from James Gray and Jon Tefft.

Adam Massey had three hits for Castleton State and Chad Phillips and Tim Zorio had two hits each as did Husson’s McInnis.

In the opener, Tripp struck out five and walked one to outduel Adam Kuhn, who also tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts and a walk.

Spencer scored the winning run when he reached on an error and eventually scored on Kyle Mathieu’s sacrifice fly.

Spencer singled in the sixth and scored on Sean Brawn’s double.

Spencer had two hits for Husson.

At Gorham, Saint Joseph’s used a four-run fifth-inning rally to surge past the University of Southern Maine.

Second baseman Mark Clapp of Blue Hill had a key two-run single during the Monks’ decisive uprising.

Charlie Furbush had two singles for St. Joseph’s.

At Waterville, Kyohei Yamada drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single to propel Bates College of Lewiston past Colby College.

UMF splits with Elms

At Farmington, Ray Doubleday allowed scattered six hits and one walk while striking out five to earn the 4-0 shutout win for the University of Maine at Farmington in the second game of a doubleheader. Elms College won the first game 9-8.

In the first game, Nathan Hawes doubled and singled with two RBIs for Elms and J.T. Mooney had a double and a single.

Justin Quimby doubled to drive in two runs for UMF and Matt Bray doubled. Corey Provencher had two singles with a RBI.

In the second game, Devin Gill hit two singles to drive in three runs for the Beavers. Jacob Turner and Provencher each had two singles. Tom Danylik and Ben Saviello both had a double.

Nathan Hawes doubled for Elms.

MMA sweeps Johnson State

At Johnson, Vt., Kristen Gaylord hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh to give Maine Maritime Academy the 6-5 win in the second game of their doubleheader. The Mariners also won the first game 19-8.

In the first game, Jessica Taylor hit a triple and a single to knock in two runs for Maine Maritime and Hillary Arris had two singles with two RBIs. Chelsie Carver tripled with two RBIs as Caitlyn Grant and Kristin Gabor each had a double and two RBIs.

Nicole Hammill had a double and three RBIs for Johnson State and Amber Gibbs had a double and a single with two RBIs.

In the second game, Gaylord had a double and three singles with two RBIs for the Mariners and Carver added two singles with a run scored.

Rachel Peterson had a double with two RBIs for Johnson State and Hammill had a double and a single.

Elms sweeps UM-Farmington

At Chicopee, Mass., Kristi Guzzo pitched two complete-game wins with a combined 17 strikeouts to help Elms College take a 3-1, 3-2 doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine at Farmington.

In the first game, Jen LeDoux had a single and an RBI for Elms.

Brandi Rideout doubled and scored a run for the UMF and Renee Trafton had a single and an RBI.

In the second game, LeDoux had a triple and a single for Elms. Karyn Palomba and Meagan Ahrens each had two singles in the eight-inning contest.

Megan Goodrow doubled and singled with a RBI for UMF and Cynthia Ravinski singled twice.
