BANGOR – State and local authorities are investigating the disappearance of a Bangor woman who is long overdue from a two-day pass from Bangor Mental Health Institute.

Lynell Christine Bunch, 40, was in Bangor on March 2 in what was the last credible sighting of the woman, Detective Sgt. Stephen Pickering of the Maine State Police said Thursday.

Without her medicine, Bunch can become highly agitated, and Pickering said it’s surprising that she hasn’t done something that would have caught the attention of police or mental health authorities.

“Without her medication, she would stand out in the community,” Pickering said.

Since no one has been able to reach her, and all of her possessions, including her keys and medication, are untouched at her Bangor apartment, Bunch’s disappearance looks suspicious, Pickering said.

“We’re trying to figure out where she is and what happened to her and why we can’t find her,” Pickering said.

Bunch is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with brown hair.

At the time of her disappearance, Bunch had been out on a two-day pass from BMHI, where she was supposed to stay until March 30, according to police. Hospital authorities reported her missing after she failed to return from her pass, the detective said.
