A tall, slim, athletic boy with brown hair and brown eyes, Dyllan loves to play basketball, skateboard, use in-line skates, play hockey and swim.

Dyllan, a third-grader, is very creative and dramatic and enjoys drawing and writing, which usually has a theme about aliens.

Dyllan, 10, has been matched with a mentor, a senior high school basketball player who encourages him to be more independent. Dyllan receives special education services, mostly within his classroom, for help with reading, writing and math. He gets along well with other children in his neighborhood and community.

For the past two years, Dyllan has been the only child in what has been his only placement since coming into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

He attends therapy weekly to learn ways of coping better with the challenges of his past. Dyllan is capable of forming an attachment and craves attention and closeness.

He is kind, loving and thoughtful and responds best with consistent, predictable expectations and known consequences for his behavior.

Those who work with Dyllan believe he would be most successful in a traditional, two-parent family where the husband is the primary parent. A nurturing, loving, safe and calm home with boundaries is key to his well-being and progress.

Dyllan responds best to positive, rewards-based corrections that are made in a “matter-of-fact” manner. In response to anxiety, Dyllan can behave and act much younger than his chronological age.

His caseworker is seeking a family that, after adoption, can maintain a relationship with Dyllan’s foster parents and with his brother and sister, with whom he visits on school vacations. An active family with an older male sibling who shares Dyllan’s love of sports would be ideal.
