Lavway sparks Wildcats Qualey, Willette lead Katahdin past Wolverines

BANGOR – Chad Lavway singled four times and scored three runs to lead the Presque Isle Wildcats to a 17-7 high school baseball victory over the Old Town Indians Saturday at the Winkin Complex.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.

Tim Morrison singled three more times, while Tim Lyford singled twice and scored three runs. Matt McGlinn had a double and two runs scored. Spencer King scored another three runs for Presque Isle.

Jarret Lukas had four singles, three runs scored and an RBI for the Indians. Storn Sagner tripled and singled to drive in one run.

Hermon sweeps Caribou

At Hermon, freshman Tim Kennerson allowed just two runs on two hits while striking out 10 to help Hermon to the win in the first game. Hermon won the second game 9-4.

In the first game, Kennerson had two singles with three RBIs for Hermon. David Wilder had two singles with an RBI and Brian McGinley scored on both of his singles.

Ryan St. Peter hit an RBI single for Caribou.

In the second game, Josh Kane drove in four runs on two singles for Hermon and McGinley had three single with two RBIs. Brady Hurd hit a double and two singles and Dustin Jalburt had two singles with an RBI.

St. Peter hit a two-run single for Caribou and Anthony Adams singled with an RBI.

At East Millinocket, Joe Qualey hit a double and a single to drive in a pair of runs to lead Katahdin of Stacyville.

Pat Willette had 16 strikeouts for Katahdin and Chris Cunningham drove in two runs on a double. O’Neil Qualey doubled and singled.

Aaron Waite had three singles with an RBI for Schenck and Jordan Pelkey doubled twice. Kyle Dempsey had an RBI double.

At Blue Hill, Ross Gallagher pitched a no-hitter in his first varsity start as the Eagles beat the Pirates.

Gallagher, a junior right-hander, struck out seven and walked two in the victory. He helped his own cause with an RBI single in the first inning.

Collin Henry stroked a two-run double and Lance Gale hit an RBI single for George Stevens Academy, which played errorless defense.

Loser Richie Tompkins scattered five hits for Piscataquis Community of Guilford.

At Lee, Eric Day hit an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to lift Dexter past Lee.

Chris Rabideau had two singles and allowed just two hits in six innings of relief for Dexter. Mark Pullen hit a single and a sacrifice fly and Day also singled.

Everett Houghton had two singles for Lee and Tyler Thompson singled and scored a run.

Softball

Old Town, Presque Isle split

At Old Town, Jamie Gomm allowed just five hits and no walks while striking out 10 to earn the 4-0 shutout win for Old Town in the first game. Presque Isle took the second game 3-2.

In the first game, Allison Gallant had two singles with two RBIs for Old Town and Jen Higgins added an RBI single.

Katie Delong, Megan Pinette, Angela Norsworthy, Chelsea Glovins, and Brianna Young each singled for Presque Isle.

In the second game, Delong hit a single, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh for Presque Isle. She had two singles. Pinette hit an RBI single in the third inning.

Gallant hit two singles and scored a run for Old Town and Monica Hussey and Meghan McKay both had an RBI single.

Hermon wins two

At Hermon, Ashley Kelley struck out 20 batters allowing only three hits and no walks in seven innings of relief pitching in two games as the Hawks beat Caribou 9-8 in the opener and 8-1 in the final game.

In the first game, Kelley pitched four innings, striking out 11 and giving up two hits. Kate Campbell singled twice with two RBI for Hermon. Shannon Wiggin also had two singles and one RBI, while Mycah Cyr singled twice.

Jessica Kinney had an RBI single for the Vikings.

In the second game, Kelley struck out nine, allowing one hit in three innings. Liz Greener singled and doubled for a total of four RBI.

Kinney and Allison Richards each singled for Caribou.

At East Millinocket, Courtney MacLeod scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to give Schenck the victory.

MacLeod had three singles for Schenck. Ashley Peabody had three singles and two RBIs and Robin Larlee added a double and a single with two RBIs. Melissa Rideout had 10 strikeouts.

Shelly Martin hit a triple and two singles to drive in a run for Katahdin of Stacyville. Sarah Charette had two singles with three RBIs and Clarissa Gallagher singled twice.

At Lee, Shelby Pickering cranked a three-run home run to spark the Pandas.

Aarika Ritchie had two singles and two RBI for the winners. Kerry Harris singled three times to bring in another run, while Amanda Gifford and Brooke Harris each had two singles.

Christy McGowen singled twice, driving in two runs for the Tigers. Julie Lockhart also brought in two runs with her double and Katie Poirier had two singles.

At Ellsworth, Jill Richards hit two doubles and a single to knock in two runs and help lead Bucksport to the win.

Terren Hall allowed just one run on three hits and one walk while striking out eight for Bucksport.

Brittni Adams doubled and singled to drive in two runs for the Golden Bucks and Hall had a double and a triple with two RBIs.

Catie Cravens hit a triple and scored a run for Ellsworth.
