Nearly 50 DVD movies, six video games and a video game system were taken from the apartment of a Fern Street man last week, Bangor police reported.

The total cost of replacement for the items, including a $200 X-Box game system, is $860.

The man reported the items missing Friday when he returned home after spending three days away.

He said there was no sign of forced entry into his apartment, although he told police that the lock on his door is easy to jimmy with a credit card.

Police do not have any suspects but told the man that it most likely was somebody familiar with his schedule who knew the apartment would be empty.

Police also told him to take steps to change his door locks.

A Jefferson Street woman also reported a burglary Friday to Bangor police after returning home and finding that her door had been forced open.

Police estimated that nearly $1,285 worth of items were taken, including a Hewlett-Packard laptop valued at about $1,000.

The door to her apartment was locked when she returned home Friday afternoon, but before she could use her key, the door opened. She found pieces of wood from the door frame when she went inside, suggesting forced entry and a weak lock, according to a police report.

The woman also told police that her apartment had been broken into about a month ago but nothing was taken on that occasion.

Police have no suspects at this point but suggested the woman find out the serial number on her laptop in case it turns up.
