PHILADELPHIA – The University of Maine men’s and women’s track teams turned in two school-record performances at the 111th annual Penn Relays, but did no better than a ninth-place finish.

The men’s distance medley relay team of Paul Rupprecht, Scott O’Connor, Portland’s Donald Drake and Topsham’s Edward Caron set a school record with a time of 9 minutes, 57.28 seconds to place ninth. The same team was 15th overall in the 4-by-800 meter relay with a time of 7:39.65.

The women’s team of Brewer’s Heather Jovanelli, Brunswick’s Janeen Shepard, Caribou’s Lindsay Burlock and Belgrade’s Hana Pelletier ran a school record time of 4:06.62 in the sprint medley relay. Stephanie McCusker of Lisbon placed 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.36 meters.
