FARMINGTON – Marco Charmella allowed just one run, three hits, and three walks while striking out two to help lead Bates College to a 4-1 baseball win over the University of Maine-Farmington Tuesday.
UMF won the second game 7-6.
In the first game, Charlie Engasser hit a solo home run for Bates and Adam Taranto singled twice.
Justin Quimby drove in a run for UMF as Jacob Turner, Corey Provencer, and Eric Cummings each singled.
In the second game, Eric Cummings hit a two-run homer for UMF and Justin Quimby had a double and a single. Jacob Turner hit an RBI triple.
Brian Mahoney drove in two runs on a home run and a single for Bates and Erik Hood had a double three RBIs. Adam Worral doubled and scored twice.

At Waterville, Kate Hurd had two singles and an RBI to help Colby win its final game.
Shannon Emerson hit two singles and scored a run for the Mules and Miki Starr and Kara Fagan each doubled. Wendy Bonner and Elizabeth Riley each had an RBI single. Toni-Lynn Robbins struck out 10.
Amanda Roy hit an RBI single for Saint Joseph’s College of Windham and Darcy Lee drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Allyson Ferguson and Leanne Morton both had two singles.

Mainville records no-hitter
At Willamantic, Conn., junior pitcher Katie Mainville of Coopers Mills fired her second career no-hitter to lead the University of Maine Huskies to a 2-0 win against the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors in the second game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Sunday. USM won the first game 4-1.
Mainville (3-3) struck out 13 batters while allowing just one baserunner on a hit-batsman in the bottom. She allowed just two balls out of the infield. She threw her first collegiate no-hiter on April 15, 2004, in a 2-0 win over Salem State.
