Former Maine Principals’ Association executive director Dick Tyler of Montpelier, Vt., died recently in Augusta at 68. A celebration of his life was held at the Augusta Civic Center.
In 1984 Tyler took over as the executive director of what was then the Maine Secondary School Principals’ Association after serving as the principal of Morse High in Bath from 1970 to 1984.
Tyler oversaw the unification of the MSSPA with the elementary principals’ association into the MPA with interscholastic and professional divisions. He also oversaw the association’s move from a one-room office to its current office and conference center in Augusta. He retired from the MPA in 2001.
