In the global scheme of things, this incident is inconsequential. In the scheme of quality of life in Bangor, it is a major annoyance.

Both lanes of I-95 north bound, on Tuesday morning just before 8 a.m., were backed up as far as the Broadway exit, with people trying to exit and turn right onto Hogan Road. A road crew was removing guardrails. Their truck was completely blocking the right lane on Hogan Road.

There was no signage indicating the right lane was blocked, until 200 feet before the blockade. No police were on duty to override the red lights andease traffic flow.

I called the Bangor Department of Public Works to complain and was told it was the state. I called the state Department of Transportation and was told the city was responsible.

Why would this work have to be done in the height of the morning rush hour on one of the busiest stretches of road in the city? Couldn’t it have waited until after 9 a.m.?

Whoever signed off on this work order should get a Darwin Award, for crawling out of the shallow end of the gene pool.
