Tigers collect victory Four-run sixth proves decisive

FORT FAIRFIELD – Brian Anderson’s run-scoring single and Keith Edgecomb’s RBI double capped a four-run sixth-inning rally that snapped a scoreless tie and gave Fort Fairfield a 4-2 baseball victory over Madawaska in the Tigers’ season-opener Tuesday.

Edgecomb had two doubles and Andrews had a pair of singles. Andrews pitched four innings of two-run relief for the win after Jake Kenneson hurled three scoreless innings.

Dustin Butler had a double and two singles for Madawaska and Nate Licote had a two-run single. Andre Roy pitched a complete-game four-hitter.

Presque Isle 14, Houlton 2

At Houlton, Chad Lavway struck out 12 in four innings, while allowing only one hit and walking two. He also had two singles for the Wildcats.

Tyler Lamoureaux singles twice to drive in two runs for Presque Isle.

Ryan Brewer, Harry Austin, and Jeff Lenentine each had a single for the Shiretowners.

At Bucksport, Joey Carmichael’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Golden Bucks the victory.

Tom Carey singled home a run in the top of the ninth to give John Bapst a 3-2 lead.

Chris Maguire singled and Nye Gifford walked in the bottom of the inning before Robbie Pushard singled home the tying run. After Joe Robichaud was hit by a pitch, Carmichael singled up the middle.

Carmichael finished with a double and single, while Pushard had two singles and two RBIs, Maguire singled twice and Gifford doubled.

Cody Andrews paced John Bapst with a home run and a single.

The game also featured a pitching duel between Gifford and John Bapst’s Mike Tardiff. Gifford pitched eight innings, while Tardiff worked into the ninth.

At Rockland, John Coppola hit three singles and knocked in two runs to lead Rockland to victory.

Ben Baudanza-Sturks, Dominic Morrill, and Steve McGuire each doubled and had an RBI for Rockland and Mike Marsh also doubled.

Adam Maguire had a double and two singles to deliver two runs for Mount View of Thorndike. Mike Light and John Wentworth both had a single with two RBIs.

At Mount Desert Island, Dan Lyons doubled and singled to plate three runs and help lead Mount Desert Island to the win.

Sam Merrill hit a two-run double for the Trojans and Marcus Maffuci had two singles and an RBI.

Ian Lee hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for Hampden Academy. Billy Shannon hit two singles and Chris Pease had an RBI single in the third inning.

At Stacyville, Jordan Sholler hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to give Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook the victory over Katahdin.

Amanda Charette, Raya King and Amanda Clark each had two singles for Southern Aroostook.

Shelly Martin had two singles and an RBI for Katahdin and Chelsea Bates doubled to drive in a run.

At Houlton, Danielle Grenier pitched a two-hitter, striking out six and walking two, as Presque Isle triumphed.

Megan Pinette had two singles to drive in a run for Presque Isle and Heather Richards tripled with two RBIs. Molly Hamel hit an RBI single in the sixth.

Sarah Harbison and Michelle Ives each singled for Houlton and Natasha Ritchie struck out seven.

At Ashland, Angela Belskis hit a double and two singles and drove in three runs to help Ashland to the win.

Pam Spooner allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five. Lindsey Long had two singles and three RBIs and Ashlee Peters added two singles and two RBIs.

Lily Morrow singled twice for Van Buren.

At Fort Fairfield, Brittany Strout fashioned a two-hitter, striking out five and walking four, to pitch Fort Fairfield past Madawaska.

Kerri Cunningham paced the 11-hit attack with a homer and three singles. Her lead-off homer triggered a six-run first inning and she had an RBI single later in the inning.

Sheena Esancy had two singles including an RBI base hit in the first and Kaylee Searles had an RBI double in the first.

Roxy Phelan and Andrea M. Cyr had singles for Madawaska.

At St. Agatha, Amanda Livesey belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning as the Eagles held off the Pioneers.

Lacey Farrar added an RBI single for Greater Houlton Christian Academy.

Nicole St. Pierre led Wisdom with a three-run home run in the sixth and Kayla Daigle hit an RBI double.

At Mount Desert, Erika Veinote held the Trojans to two hits, striking out eight and walking one as the Broncos posted the victory.

Veinote also doubled and singled to drive in the first run of the game. Jenna Shue added two more singles, while Eva Shannon doubled and scored a run for Hampden.

Lynne Bowden and Stephanie Shuster had one single apiece for MDI.

At Ellsworth, Catie Cravens pitched a one-hitter and Emily Miller scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Eagles.

Miller reached on a bunt single, stole second base and came around to score on Maggie Seavey’s infield hit.

Seavey had two singles for Ellsworth.

Cravens struck out 12 and walked just two. She allowed just a fourth-inning single to Mycah Cyr.

Ashley Kelley pitched a five-hitter for Hermon with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

At Jonesport, the Blue Devils took advantage of two Royalette errors to score five runs in the fifth inning and take the lead for good.

Darcey Gillespie paced Calais with a solo homer in the sixth, a double, a single, and three RBIs. Chrissy Driscoll added two singles and two RBIs, and Emily Wilkinson rapped a pair of singles.

Kristi Smith and Renee Jordan led the Royalettes with an RBI single each.

At Old Town, Jen Higgins and Trish Shirland had RBI singles in the fourth inning to pace Old Town to its win over Bangor.

Liz Bergeron allowed just one run on three hits and four walks while striking out six for Old Town. Jamie Gomm singled twice.

Alex Fahey had an RBI single in the second inning for the Rams. Emily Heath and Erin Gray each singled and Kelly White walked and scored a run.
