Bangor swept by Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE – Seniors Danny Michaud and Chad Lavway pitched complete games as unbeaten Presque Isle swept a baseball doubleheader from Bangor, 6-1 and 8-5, on Saturday.

In the opener, Michaud hurled a two-hitter while striking out five, walking three, and hitting a batter.

Derrek Belanger paced the Presque Isle offense with three singles and two RBIs, while Michaud added two singles and two RBIs.

Scott Hackett and Jessefa Murphy each singled for Bangor.

In the second game, Lavway, a lefthander, struck out 13 batters.

Class A Bangor led 4-1 through 41/2 innings, but Class B Presque Isle scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and five runs in the sixth to earn the victory.

In the sixth, the Wildcats used a pair of bunt singles and a successful suicide squeeze by Logan York to start the rally. Lavway followed with an RBI double, and Tim Lyford capped off the uprising with a two-run single to right.

Lavway finished the game with a double and two singles, while Lyford and Tim Morrison each singled twice.

Brian Hackett had three singles for Bangor, while Jordan Heath singled twice and Eric Anderson doubled.

At Lincoln, Aaron Flannery drove in five runs with two doubles, including a three-run double in the sixth inning, to spark the Lynx.

Mattanawcook took advantage of four walks in the sixth while Jake Smith added two doubles and three RBIs.

Victor Jacques paced the Tigers of East Sullivan with a double and a single. A.J. Pennartz and Mason Bukowski each had an RBI single.

Bucksport 5-18, Caribou 1-2

At Caribou, pitchers Nye Gifford and Chris Maguire limited Caribou to three runs and 10 hits as the Golden Bucks earned the Class B doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, Gifford allowed just four singles while Bucksport took control with three runs in the top of the second inning.

Joey Carmichael led the winners with a double and a single, while Matt Jackson singled twice.

John Noyes singled twice for Caribou.

In the second game, Gifford tripled and doubled, while Pat Dedmon hit three singles and Teddy Cooke singled twice in support of Maguire, a sophomore who scattered six Caribou hits in the five-inning contest.

Eric Jepson paced the Vikings with two singles.

Limestone 21, Van Buren 7

At Limestone, Lindsey Beaulieu doubled and singled to drive in three runs as the Eagles defeated the Crusaders.

Kylie Mulherin also drove in three runs with her two singles. Melanie Allen doubled for two more RBIs for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Karie Ouellette had a double and two RBIs for Van Buren.

At Lincoln, freshman Denielle Nicastro came in to pitch the final three innings for the Lynx, striking out six while allowing only one hit and no walks to help Mattanawcook rally from a 10-2 deficit.

Cami Cousineau had three singles, a double, and two RBIs, including the game-winner in the seventh, to assist in the win. Shannon Pietras and Mallory Gates each singled twice.

Whitney Page had two singles for the Tigers of East Sullivan, while Holly Stanwood doubled with two RBIs.
