CANAAN – One person was killed Monday night and two others injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 2 near the Tropical Fish Road.

The accident happened at 7:10 p.m. and police were on scene until after 10 p.m. reconstructing the crash and clearing the roadway. Throughout that time, Route 2 was closed from Pittsfield to Canaan. The accident reportedly involved a late model Mercury Sable and a pickup truck.

One victim in the truck and the operator of the Sable were both taken by LifeFlight Air Ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment. The other victim in the truck was dead at the scene, according to an official.

Somerset County Deputy Wilfred Dodge was handling the accident but was unable to return calls for information. No identities of either the deceased or the injured were available by press time.
