Children from the Weatherbee School and McGraw School will form a “walking school bus” today in recognition of Maine Walk and Bike to School Week, May 9-13. The children, along with volunteer escorts, will leave at 8:05 a.m. from the Maine Savings Bank parking lot with an expected arrival time of 8:35 a.m. If successful, the effort could lead to a regular weekly event as a way for parents and children to add physical activity to their lives, according to Kurt Mathies, Hampden Recreation director. The event is sponsored by the Hampden Recreation Department, SAD 22 and the Bangor Area Comprehensive Transportation System.
