BANGOR – A Hampden man was sentenced Tuesday in Penobscot County Superior Court to 10 years in prison with all but three years suspended.
Steve J. Ellis, 35, also was sentenced to three years of probation after his release.
He also was ordered to pay restitution to his victims, but the exact amount was unavailable Tuesday afternoon. Ellis pleaded guilty Tuesday to four area burglaries, including one at Miller Drug and another at a Brewer church, stealing drugs, attempted burglary and other crimes.
Ellis also waived indictment and pleaded guilty to two attempted drugstore burglaries the same night of the break-in at Miller Drug.
None of the victims appeared in court at his sentencing. He faced up to 40 years in prison on each burglary count alone.
Ellis was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. March 15 behind Miller Drug on State Street in Bangor. He broke into the pharmacy through the front door and left out the back with 15 bottles of prescription medicine.
Earlier that evening, Ellis broke into the North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church on North Main Street in Brewer.
He also attempted to break into Brooks Pharmacy in Brewer and a Rite Aid in Bangor.
