Orono’s annual Tasting Bee, featuring foods by area restaurants and their chefs, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Asa Adams School. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 years old, and free for children under 6. All proceeds will benefit Orono’s bicentennial fund. Arborvine in Blue Hill will welcome spring with an Australian wine dinner. Chef John Hikade will pair multiple courses with selections from importer Jane Delaney. Among the highlights on the menu are a Timbale of Sea Scallop, Langoustine and Crabmeat with a Dijon Sabayon, paired with SYN Sparkling Blanc de Blanc; Shallot Encrusted Stonington Halibut with Sesame Seaweed Salad and Ginger-Soy Aioli paired with Shottesbrooke Sauvignon Blanc 2003; and a Grilled Medallion of Venison on a Saffron Risotto Cake with Wild Mushrooms and Red Currants, paired with Matilda Plains Shiraz Cabernet Merlot 2003. Dinner starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, and costs $65 per person, plus tax and gratuity. To reserve a seat, call 374-2441.
