A three-car accident on the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge in Brewer Wednesday afternoon resulted in an Orrington man being charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants.
Brewer police were called shortly after 4 p.m. when Michael Aygarn, 48, rear-ended a vehicle on the bridge near Main Street, causing that vehicle to bump into another.
Aygarn refused a breathalyzer test, which would have determined the blood alcohol level, but according to Brewer police, Aygarn had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and smelled of intoxicants. Several witnesses also provided statements confirming the man’s intoxication.
Aygarn also suffered a minor bump to the head. He will appear on June 10 in 3rd District Court in Bangor on the OUI charge.

A Bangor man was arrested on an outstanding warrant Wednesday evening after police responded to a report of a fight at a Hersey Avenue residence.
When police arrived, three residents were on the porch. Each gave a side of the story, which apparently stemmed from an argument over use of an oven.
A woman told police that the incident started when she turned on the kitchen oven to warm the room so she could take a shower.
Another resident, Russell G. Field, 34, began arguing with the woman over the heat, which woke up the third resident, a male. Field reportedly continued his argument with the other man and then punched him in the head and neck, according to a police report.
Field told police that their landlord had asked the roommates not to use the oven as a form of heat, so he turned it off. Field admitted to punching his roommate, but was not charged with assault. Police arrested him on an outstanding warrant for failure to pay fines.

A Bangor man was arrested Wednesday night for violating bail conditions after police found him at the residence of a woman he reportedly had assaulted on a previous occasion.
Police were called to Howard Johnson’s on a report that a customer, identified as Ralph Soctomah, 52, was out of control and yelling at another patron. Soctomah was escorted outside and told not to come back, Bangor police Sgt. Larry Weber’s wrote in his report.
Police spoke to the woman Soctomah was seen yelling at. She said Soctomah was her live-in boyfriend and was not supposed to have contact with her, the police report stated. Soctomah also was not supposed to return to the Kenduskeag Avenue residence.
Weber and another officer followed the woman home to see whether Soctomah had returned and, sure enough, he was there, Weber’s report stated.
Soctomah is due in court on May 23 for the assault charge and now will face a charge of violating his bail conditions as well.
