Graduation tackiness

Last Saturday I had the honor of being present at my daughter’s graduation at the University of Maine. It was a miserable, rainy day, but that did not dampen my spirits as much as listening to the guest speaker expressing his political views to a class of graduates whom I am quite sure were not the least bit interested in politics that day. I feel they were more interested in words of encouragement, congratulations and wishes of success.

We all in Maine know Stephen King is a great asset to our state and I am sure that is why he was asked to address the graduation class of 2005. If this had been a political rally I am sure all present would have agreed with the opinions of the speaker, but all did not care for his tacky remarks. Had I been a graduate, I would have not wanted to hear unnecessary, degrading remarks about the president of our country. I know I didn’t expect to witness it at a graduation.
