Bangor police were dispatched to a home on Kenduskeag Avenue Saturday night after receiving a report of a man attempting to break into the house.
Officer Dan Herrick told Officer Steve Jordan, who was in a cruiser on his way to assist at the Kenduskeag Avenue residence, that the suspect, Dennis A. Wood, 40, no address given, had just left the scene in a maroon Saturn.
Jordan reportedly saw the Saturn pass by him at that moment, and turned around to pursue him. After confirming it was the correct car, Jordan followed Wood down Valley Avenue until he pulled into a parking lot.
Wood jumped out of the car and ran off into the stream between Flower Mill and Interstate 95, police said. He eventually returned to Jordan and was placed under arrest. Wood said he had a needle in his pocket with cocaine in it, as well as a “phony $100 bill” that he said was the source of the dispute on Kenduskeag Avenue, according to police. Wood also had a warrant out for his arrest from a previous incident on Ohio Street, the details of which police did not disclose.
Jordan took Wood to the Penobscot County Jail and charged him with being a habitual offender and possession of scheduled drugs. He was also signed in under the Superior Court warrant, with a bail of $1,948.94. A small amount of the prescription drug Percoset was also found on Wood’s person at the jail, police said.
