Perry leads Devils past Pandas

CALAIS ? Stephanie Perry hit a two-run single in the third to drive in the winning run for the Calais softball and then held Lee Academy scoreless the rest of the way as the undefeated Blue Devils earned their eighth win, a 4-2 victory over the Pandas.

Perry’s hit plated Lindsey Mingo, who singled and reached third on an error, and Darcey Gillespie, who walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Perry also had an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the first inning. Mingo finished with two singles.

Karin Bird led Lee with a double, a single and an RBI while Shelby Pickering had an RBI double in the first inning.

Katahdin sweeps DI-Stonington

At Deer Isle, Lindsay Albert hit a triple, double, and two singles to drive in five runs to lead Katahdin of Stacyville to the 18-10 win over Deer Isle-Stonington in the second game. Katahdin also won the first game 19-6.

In the first game, Chelsie Bates hit a three-run home run and two singles to drive in four runs for Katahdin and Roni Robinson had a two-run homer and two doubles with three RBIs. Brooke Smallwood singled, doubled, and tripled to drive in two runs and Kayla Stevens had a double and two singles with two RBIs.

Regyn Lawry doubled and singled with two RBI for DI-Stonington. Christina Fifield hit an RBI double and Whitney Haskell had two singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Jasmine Pelletier singled, doubled, and tripled to drive in a run for Katahdin and Clarissa Gallagher doubled and singled with three RBIs.

Heather Brewer had three singles and a double with an RBI for DI-Stonington. Lawry doubled and singled to drive in two runs and Jonelle Robbins singled twice.

Presque Isle 13-2, MDI 5-5

At Presque Isle, Heather Richards hit three singles to drive in two runs to help push Presque Isle to the 13-5 win over Mount Desert Island in the first game. The Trojans won the second game 5-2.

In the first game, Allisen Donovan singled three times to knock in a run for Presque Isle and Katie Moody had two singles with an RBI. Danielle Grenier struck out eight.

Stephanie Shuster singled, doubled, and tripled with an RBI for MDI.

In the second game, Sarah Ingalls had three singles and an RBI for MDI and Kendra Richards singled three times. Nia Megquier had nine strikeouts and no walks.

Grenier singled twice and struck out eight for Presque Isle.

At Eastport, Whitney Vinson tripled twice and knocked out a home run to drive in four runs for the winning Tigerettes.

Vicki Morrison singled four times for three more RBI. Ashley Murphy had a double, two singles and scored four runs.

Tiffany Wormell and Gena Clark each had two singles and two RBI for the Dragons.

At Auburn, Gwen Maddox and Lindsey Clement each netted three goals in the Windjammers’ win.

Sarah Doubleday, Katie Wood, Laura MacKinnon, Fallon Atkinson and Laura Schelble all added another goal apiece. Erika Johnson made eight saves for 3-5 Camden Hills.

Danny Martineau scored four goals for 2-5 Edward Little. Kristen Humphry and Katie Bonney each had two, while Joanna Hughes made 10 saves.

Baseball

MDI, Presque Isle split

At Presque Isle, senior lefthander Chad Lavway held the Mount Desert Island Trojans to one hit to give Presque Isle a 2-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader after righthander Andy Pooler pitched a two-hit gem to give the Trojans a 2-0 victory in the first game.

Lavway struck out 10 and walked one for the Wildcats in the second game and scored the only run he would need in the third on Derrek Belanger’s RBI single. Lavway had singled, stole second and advanced to third on a Tim Lyford sacrifice bunt.

MDI’s Sam Merrill allowed just two hits and three walks in the loss while Andy Pooler singled in the third inning.

In the first game, Matt Grover and Jake Willis each singled twice to back Pooler, who walked only one batter. Grover and Dan Lyons each had an RBI single.

Tim Morrison and Spencer Wing each singled for the Wildcats while Danny Michaud scattered six hits, striking out seven and walking two.

DI-Stonington sweeps Katahdin

At Deer Isle, freshman Collin Ciomei allowed just one run on four hits, two walks, and one hit-by-pitch while striking out seven to help lead Deer Isle-Stonington past Katahdin of Stacyville 5-1 in the first game. DI-Stonington also won the second game 9-2.

In the first game, Josh Eaton hit a two-run single for DI-Stonington and Nick Ciomei singled with two RBIs. Thomas Robbins added an RBI single.

Keith Anderson singled twice for Katahdin.

In the second game, Nick Ciomei tripled and singled to drive in two runs for DI-Stonington. Rob Brown had two singles and an RBI and Collin Ciomei added two singles.

Owen McCarthy and Burton Brayall each singled twice for Katahdin and Cam Cunningham hit an RBI double.

At Calais, Gerry Worster pitched a no-hitter with three walks and five strikeouts for Lee Academy.

Everett Houghton hit a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single for Lee and Charlie Boulrisse added a solo homer in the third inning. Blaine Clark had a single and a two-run triple and Kent Doane singled twice to knock in a run.

At Bangor, Derek Maloney singled three times to bring in two runs as the Tigers earned their seventh straight win.

Aaron Sullivan singled two more times, driving in another two runs. Josh Frances also singled twice for Shead.

Steve Newell doubled and then scored on Ben Leighton’s single for the Dragons.

At Bangor, George Keefe and Alex Yates each singled in the ninth and then took advantage of three walks to score the winning runs for the Crusaders.

Keefe finished with a double and two singles. Cody Andrews also singled twice for John Bapst.

Jason Eremita singled twice to bring in four runs for the Rams.

At Hampden, Evan Farley struck out five and walked four in four innings as he helped the Broncos to a win.

Jake Hitchings singled three times and drove in three runs for Hampden. Mike Brown added a single, a double and two RBI.

Brian McGinley singled twice for the Hawks.

Sherri Nadeau had an RBI single for the Owls.
