ORONO ? Max Winter hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and had three singles to drive in six runs and help power Orono to the 12-4 win over Caribou in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday. Orono also won the first game 5-4 to earn the sweep.

In the first game, Ben Stout scored the winning run on a two-out error in the sixth inning for Orono. Travis Dunton hit a two-run home run and a single. Dustin Thomas doubled and singled to knock in a run and Travis Bryant had two singles and an RBI.

Jon Brothers allowed no earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Corey Dickerson hit a two-run single for Caribou and Ryan St. Peter doubled.

In the second game, Jon Brothers tripled and singled with two RBIs for Orono and Collin Bates had a two-run double.

Brad Campbell hit two singles for Caribou and Devin Hersey doubled.

Mattanawcook sweeps PVHS

At Brewer, Drew Welch allowed just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven to help lead Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to the 13-1 win over Penobscot Valley of Howland in the first game. The Lynx also won the second game 10-9.

In the first game, Adam Long hit three singles to drive in two runs for Mattanawcook. Corey Drost had two singles with an RBI and Jason Murchison doubled.

Ryan Ware, Joe Gilley, Josh Ireland, and Corey each singled for Penobscot Valley.

In the second game, Adam Long was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning for Mattanawcook. Jason Murchison hit a three-run double to tie the game in the fifth inning. Drost doubled and singled to knock in two runs.

Jake Crosby and Ireland both had three singles and two RBIs for the Howlers and Dylan Thompson doubled.

At Bangor, George Keefe and Alex Yates each singled in the ninth and then took advantage of three walks to score the winning runs for the Crusaders.

Keefe finished with a double and two singles. Cody Andrews also singled twice for John Bapst.

Jason Eremita singled twice to bring in four runs for the Rams.

At Hampden, Evan Farley struck out five and walked four in four innings as he helped the Broncos to a win.

Everett Houghton hit a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single for Lee and Charlie Boulrisse added a solo homer in the third inning. Blaine Clark had a single and a two-run triple and Kent Doane singled twice to knock in a run.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Shayne Croan held the Pirates to two hits while striking out six and walking six as the Ponies earned a win.

Nick Lancisi singled and doubled to drive in four runs for Foxcroft Academy. Josh Pelletier also singled and doubled for two RBIs, while Adam Conway singled three times for one RBI. Adam Dow and Abram Landry each had an RBI single.

Mike Burnett hit a home run and a single with two RBIs for Piscataquis.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Derek Maloney singled three times to bring in two runs as the Tigers earned their seventh straight win.

Aaron Sullivan singled two more times, driving in another two runs. Josh Frances also singled twice for Shead.

Steve Newell doubled and then scored on Ben Leighton’s single for the Dragons.

At Bangor, Amy Wadleigh struck out nine batters, allowing four hits and walking three as the Rams snuck by the Crusaders.

Kelly White doubled and singled for Bangor. Wadleigh and Tawyna Godinez each had an RBI single.

Hilary Laferriere brought in both of John Bapst’s runs with her single in the third.

At Dyer Brook, Raya King tripled and singled to drive in three runs and lead Southern Aroostook past Bangor Christian.

Chelsea Collier allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out nine for Southern Aroostook. Jordan Sholler doubled and singled and Kaylea Collier tripled with two RBIs.

Amarie Hussey hit a two-run single for the Patriots and Adrienne Ricci singled and had an RBI fielder’s choice.

Orono sweeps Caribou

At Orono, Chelsea Paul hit a two-run single in the fifth as the Red Riots rallied to beat the Vikings 7-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Orono went on to win the second game 7-3.

In the first game, Michelle Nickerson and Lindsey Colbath each added an RBI single for Orono. Sara Pavento had eight strikeouts in a four-hitter.

Allison Richards, Emily St. Peter, Christy Zbylut and Julia Gagnon each singled for Caribou.

In the second game, Orono’s Emily Balaban drove in four runs on a double and a single, while Nickerson had two singles and an RBI.

Richards led Caribou with two singles.

At Calais, Stephanie Perry hit a two-run single in the third to drive in the winning run and she held the Pandas scoreless the rest of the way as the undefeated Blue Devils earned their eighth win.

Perry’s hit plated Lindsey Mingo, who singled and reached third on an error, and Darcey Gillespie, who walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Perry also had an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the first inning. Mingo finished with two singles.

Karin Bird led Lee with a double, a single and an RBI while Shelby Pickering had an RBI double in the first inning.

Lynx, Howlers split

At Brewer, Jenn Plourde’s out-of-the-park home run in the bottom of the seventh lifted Penobscot Valley to an 8-7 win in the first game of a doubleheader, while Heather Gulesian snagged a line drive to help complete a game-ending double play for an 8-7 Mattanawcook win in the second game.

In the first game, Plourde and Kelsey Lavertu added a double apiece for Penobscot Valley of Howland. Shannon Pietras, Cami Cousineau, Bree Hanscom, Felicia Ireland and Kaitlin Shorey each had two singles for Mattanawcook of Lincoln.

In the second game, Pietras, Shorey, Heather Gulesian and Dyna Vose each singled twice for the Lynx. Plourde doubled and singled for the Howlers, while Tiffany Brown and Lavertu singled twice apiece.
