Brewer grounds Eagles

BREWER – Kevin McAvoy singled three times and scored three runs Thursday night as Brewer rolled to an 11-1 baseball victory over Ellsworth at Heddericg Field.

Evan Economy struck out eight, walking two and allowing only four hits. Matt Grimes added three singles and two RBIs for Brewer, while Rick Adams had two singles and two RBIs and Brad Brown also drove home two runs.

Ricky Trombley singled twice for Ellsworth.

At Newport, Chris Brewer had two singles and three RBIs as Old Town prevailed in five innings.

Jared Goody hit a two-run double for the Indians.

Josh White singled twice for the Warriors.

At Hermon, Nick Hubbard doubled to drive in two runs as the Crusaders earned a win.

Cody Andrews and Nick Smith each added two singles and an RBI for John Bapst.

Travis Estes had a solo home run for the Hawks, while Tim Kennerson singled twice.

At Searsport, Josh Nickerson fired a no-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Vikings remained unbeaten at 9-0.

Mike Adams collected two singles and a double and knocked in three runs for Searsport while Matt Nickerson smacked a two-run double.

Mariners win twice

At Howland, Thomas Robbins doubled twice and singled once to bring home one run in Deer Isle-Stonington’s win of the first game, 15-4. The Mariners also won the second game 6-2.

In the first game, Nick Ciomei tripled and singled for the Mariners.

Matt Cummings had three singles and an RBI for the Howlers, while Ryan Ware had two singles.

In the second game, John Eaton had a single and two RBIs for Deer Isle-Stonington. Josh Eaton added two singles.

Ware singled twice and Cummings had an RBI single for Penobscot Valley.

At East Millinocket, Jordan Burleigh singled three times and knocked in three runs as the Minutemen rolled past rival Schenck.

Ryan Bouchard hit a two-run single and Steve Cyr had two singles and three RBIs for Stearns of Millinocket.

Trevor Violette notched two singles with two RBIs to pace the Wolverines. Nick Bishop had two singles and an RBI and Jordan Pelkey two singles.

At Bangor, Mike Julian hit a three-run home run in the second inning to propel the Red Devils of Corinth to victory.

Julian also singled twice for Central, while Brian Parker and Levi Nickerson combined to pitch a four-hitter.

Willy Hinkley singled twice and scored twice for Bangor Christian.

At Stacyville, Everett Houghton had three singles and a pair of RBIs to lead Lee Academy to its 10th victory.

Tyler Thompson added an RBI double and a single for the Pandas, while Blaine Clark added a solo home run in support of winning pitcher Charlie Boulrisse.

Patrick Willett doubled twice for Katahding, while Cameron Cunningham and Owen McCarthy each singled twice and Oneil Qualey hit a solo home run.

At Brewer, Jordan McLean held the Eagles to one hit, striking out 11 and walking two as the Witches advanced to a win.

Christine Thoms hit a two-run home run in the first to start Brewer out with a lead. Anna Corey doubled and singled to bring in two runs. Kate Hanlon had an RBI double and McLean had two singles.

Reegan Brown had an RBI single for Ellsworth.

At Newport, Jamie Gomm had two singles and two RBIs in addition to pitching a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts as the Indians rolled.

Monica Hussey doubled, singled and knocked in a pair of runs for Old Town while Amy McFalls tripled and singled.

Patrice Cianchette and Alyssa Bragdon each singled for the Warriors.

At East Sullivan, Jody Pinkham tripled and singled and Kayla Higgins doubled and singled to push the Tigers past the Lynx.

Whitney Page and Nicky Sargent each had two more singles for Sumner.

Bree Hanscom’s home run in the sixth brought in three runs for Mattanawcook of Lincoln. Hanscom and Kaitlin Shorey also had two singles each.

Theresa Cameron doubled while Aimee Nielsen and Jen Libby each singled for the Vikings.

At Howland, Jamie Milton pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener to spark host Penobscot Valley to a doubleheader sweep of Deer Isle-Stonington.

In the first game, Milton also doubled and singled twice with two RBIs for the Howlers, while Tiffany Brown doubled and singled twice and Ashley Dawson tripled with two RBIs.

Heather Brewer singled twice for Deer Isle-Stonington.

In the second game, Milton scattered eight hits on the mound while hitting two singles and a triple and plating four runs.

Brown also singled twice and tripled, and drove home three runs.

Anna Boyce singled twice for Deer Isle-Stonington.

Kayla Osborne had two singles and Melissa Rideout scored a run and stuck out 12 Stearns batters for the Wolverines.

At Bangor, Alyssa Libby allowed only two hits, walking three and striking out 13 as the Red Devils took the win.

Jenny Rollins and Chantel Randall each contributed two singles for Central.

Megan Mishou struck out six and walked one for the Patriots, allowing six hits. Christin Pelletier also singled twice and scored a run.

Foxcroft, PCHS split

At Dover-Foxcroft, the Foxcroft Academy Ponies and Piscataquis of Guilford Pirates each picked up its first win of the season during a doubleheader.

In the first game, Angel Cumberland’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning sparked a decisive five-run rally.

Chamberland also singled and finished with three RBIs, while Coral Goggin had three singles and two RBIs and Sami Hall singled twice with two RBIs.

Teddi-Anne Galuski had three singles and three RBIs for the Pirates, while Kristi Levesque hit a double and two singles and scored three runs.

In the second game, Jessica Pratt’s three-run double in the fourth inning was the pivotal blow for PCHS. She also doubled, and finished with four RBIs, while Levesque had three singles.

Goggin doubled and singled twice with an RBI for Foxcroft, while Hall tripled and singled and drove home a run.
