BANGOR – A new session of the Warren Center for Communication & Learning’s free “Coping with Memory Disorders through Communication” course will be held for family caregivers of those with memory disorders 2-4 p.m. Wednesdays, June 1-22, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 540 Essex St. The course and all materials are free for family caregivers, thanks to funding by the United Way of Eastern Maine.

The Warren Center, Bangor’s oldest not-for-profit, professional speech and hearing clinic, is offering this workshop to help family and personal caregivers of people with memory disorders due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and other diseases associated with memory loss, communicate more effectively with those in their care. The workshop may be tailored to fit the needs of participants, and professional respite care is available on-site at no charge. The workshop will be led by Warren Center speech-language pathologist Jennifer Fiske.

The Memory Disorders workshop teaches about the nature of memory disorders and methods and strategies that can be used to make communication easier and more effective for both the caregiver and person being cared for.
