Getting information

“Rioting, burning and killing in the streets,” the headlines read after Muslims in Afghanistan heard that interrogators in Guantanamo, in order to rattle detainees, had desecrated the Quran. Of course, we now know that false Newsweek reports led to this mess. However, at the same time, those people in Guantanamo are dealing with some of the worst terrorists in the world.

How are they supposed to get information from them; threaten to withhold the bananas from their bowl of Wheaties at breakfast in the morning? I doubt it.

I wonder what would happen if an American prisoner of war had his Bible desecrated in order to rattle him? Would Christians around the country riot, burn and kill in the streets? I think not.

The words “being civilized” come to mind.
