GORHAM – Senior distance runner Mike Bunker of the University of Southern Maine men’s outdoor track and field team set a school record on the way to winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

Bunker, who set the previous school record (9:19.64) in the steeplechase 12 days ago on the same track, reset the mark with a winning time of 9:09.39.

He is ranked fifth in the steeplechase among the automatic and provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Division III National Championships that will be held May 26-28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
