MILLINOCKET – Freshman righthander Justin Pelkey tossed a two-hitter, striking out two and walking two, to pitch Stearns to a 7-0 high school baseball victory over Central of Corinth on Friday.
Pelkey, Steve Cyr, and George Surrette had run-scoring singles in a four-run first inning that gave Pelkey a comfortable lead.
Cyr had two singles and two RBIs and Ryan Beaulieu contributed a run-scoring double for the Minutemen.
Kurt Smith and Andy Bell had singles for the Red Devils.

Blaine Meehan singled twice and drove in a run for Hampden Academy, and Danny MacLean singled and scored a run.

At Milo, Kevin Nason knocked in Justin Morrill with a single in the sixth inning to give Penquis its first win of the season.
Sophomore Nick Emery allowed just one run on five this and two walks while striking out six and doubled and singled to drive in a run for the Patriots. Morrill tripled and scored both runs.
Mike Burnett doubled and singled with an RBI for Piscataquis of Guilford, and Roy Burdin doubled and singled.

At Lincoln, Jason Murchison’s run-scoring triple and D.J. Robinson’s RBI single keyed a seven-run fifth inning that broke the game open.
Bryan Berry threw six innings of three-hit ball, striking out four and not walking anybody, to pick up the win.
Murchison also had a double and finished with two RBIs. Corey Drost had two singles and two RBIs.

Flaherty is Player of Year
CHICAGO – Ryan Flaherty of Deering High School in Portland was named the Gatorade 2005 Maine Boys Baseball Player of the Year.
At the time of his selection, Flaherty, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior shortstop, was batting .415 with an on-base percentage of .561 and 15 RBIs. He was rated the top baseball prospect in the state by Baseball America.
The Gatorade High School Player of the Year program recognizes one winner in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Mike Adams doubled and singled to drive in a run for Searsport. Nickerson had two singles and Tyson McHatten hit an RBI single.
Collin Henry doubled in the fourth inning and hit an RBI sacrifice fly in the first for George Stevens Academy.

Kellie Martel had two singles for Piscataquis of Guilford.
