Brewer knocks Bucksport from the unbeaten ranks

BREWER – Jordan McLain singled and doubled to drive in two runs as Brewer defeated previously unbeaten Bucksport 6-2 in a Penobscot Valley Conference softball game.

Katie Quimby, Anna Corey and Kate Hanlon each had an RBI single for Brewer.

Katie Hurd had an RBI single for the Golden Bucks.

Bangor sweeps Old Town

At Bangor, Kate Turner singled home a run and Tawnya Godinez followed with a two-run triple in the top of the 11th as Bangor outlasted Old Town in the second game of their doubleheader.

Bangor scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener 5-4.

In the first game, Turner had three singles and Amanda Webb tripled and doubled for Bangor, which trailed 4-0 after two innings.

Bangor loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh on an intentional walk to Kelly White and singles by Turner and Erin Gray before White scored the winning run on a grounder by Courtney Stevenson.

Jen Higgins doubled and singled for Old Town, while Monica Hussey hit two singles and Megan McKay hit a two-run double.

In the second game, McKay had an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, but Bangor right fielder Jessica Tweedie threw out the potential winning run at the plate to send the game into extra innings.

Ilyse Angst paced the Rams with three singles, a double and two RBIs, while Hussey and Allison Gallant each singled twice for Old Town.

PVHS Howlers gain sweep

At Bangor, Jamie Milton pitched a five-hitter and a six-hitter as Penobscot Valley of Howland swept a doubleheader from Bangor Christian, 12-0 and 16-4.

In the first game, Kacey Foster doubled and singled and Randy Rackley and Ashley Dawson each singled twice for the Howlers.

In the second game, Rackley hit two doubles and a single and Dawson scored three runs. Adrienne Ricci led Bangor Christian with a triple and a double, while Christin Pelletier tripled.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Coral Goggin singled three times and drove in three runs as the Ponies earned a win.

Sarah Anderson added two singles for Foxcroft Academy.

Roseanne Stewart singled twice for Dexter, bring in three runs. Christy McGowan had two singles and a double.

At Ellsworth, Emily Miller allowed only three hits while striking out eight to lead Ellsworth to the win.

Tasha Manning and Holly Johnston each singled twice to drive in a run for the Eagles.

Jessica Bates, Chelsea Paul and Emily Balaban had a single apiece for the Red Riots.

Wildcats, Crusaders split

At Bangor, Dani Grenier singled and doubled to help Presque Isle win the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against John Bapst 5-2. John Bapst won the second game 8-1.

In the first game, Ali Donovan added two singles and an RBI for the Wildcats.

Megan Brown tripled and Marci Scofield doubled for the Crusaders.

In the second game, Rachel Stearns and Amy Adams each singled three times for John Bapst, while Dani Richard tripled and singled for two RBIs. Gwen Wadleigh and Heather Laferriere each had two singles.

Katie Delong, Angela Norsworthy and Donovan had two singles apiece for the Wildcats.

Caribou, Nokomis split

At Caribou, Emily St. Peter and Kyla Zetterman had RBI singles during a six-run sixth-inning rally that lifted Caribou to a 7-2 win in the second game of their doubleheader.

Nokomis of Newport scored nine runs in the second inning of the opener and went on to an 18-3 win.

In the first game, Michelle Barden had a triple and single with three RBIs, while Alyssa Bragdon doubled and singled and scored twice.

In the second game, Jessica Kinney had two singles for the Vikings. Bragdon had a triple and three singles for Nokomis.

At Bangor, Brian Hackett held the Indians to two hits, striking out nine and walking five. He also brought in two runs for Bangor with a double in the bottom of the third.

Jordan Heath, Gordon Webb and Jason Eremita each singled twice for the Rams.

Brad Perry and Nathan Lonko had a single apiece for Old Town.

At Brewer, Matt Grimes singled and knocked out a two run home run in the second as the Witches blew by Bucksport.

Joey Carmichael singled twice for the Golden Bucks.

At Ellsworth, Louden Jellison hit a two-run homer and RBI triple to lead the Eagles to the win.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Logan Forrest had three singles and three RBIs as the Ponies avenged an earlier loss and handed the Tigers their first defeat.

Caleb Pelletier had two singles and Matt Carey a double for Foxcroft. Justin Freeman hit two singles and drove in a run while also pitching a complete game

Tim McCarthy hit a pair of solo homers and doubled to pace Dexter. Mark Pullen had two singles and an RBI and Chris Rabideau added a double.

Caribou wins two

At Caribou, the Vikings swept a doubleheader from Nokomis of Newport, winning 3-1 in the first game and 11-1 in the second.

In the opener, John Noyes had two singles and an RBI to lead Caribou and Kyle Corrigan singled.

Isaac Osborne, Eric Ballard and Ryan Creighton all singled for Nokomis.

In the nightcap, Dustin Haines had two singles and two RBIs while Corrigan had a pair of singles and an RBI as the Vikings got the sweep.

John Stinsman had two doubles for the Warriors and Derek Boillard a single.

BC takes two from PVHS

At Bangor, Ignacio Bustos hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Patriots a 10-9 win in the second game of a doubleheader with Penobscot Valley of Howland.

BC won the opener 19-9 in five innings.

In the second game, Josh Frost doubled, singled twice and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Pats. Justin Phinney and Willie Hinkley each had three singles.

Matt Cummings had two singles and four RBIs for the Howlers and Joe Gilley hit two singles.

In the first game, Phinney hit a solo homer, singled twice and knocked in seven runs to lead Bangor Christian. Bustos had two singles and three RBIs.

Dylan Thompson singled three times and drove in two runs for PVHS and Cummings had two singles.
