Milbridge society’s exhibits posted on Web site

Alice Beal wrote to suggest I check out the Web site for the Milbridge Historical Society – and what a good idea it was.

The group has a fine site at www.milbridgehistoricalsociety.org; that should be easy to remember.

You’ll enjoy viewing and reading about exhibits and may be inspired to drop by when the museum is open – 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in June and September; 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday in July and August; and by appointment through Dec. 10. Call curator Terry Hussey at 546-7479 to make an appointment.

A new project of the historical society is the publication of “Drops of Spray from Southern Seas,” by Lucy Brown Reynolds, who went to sea with her father in the late 1800s.

The prepublication price is $25 plus $4.50 postage, sent to the society at P.O. Box 194, Milbridge 04658. After the book’s release – in August or thereabouts – the price will go up to $30.

The Web site also offers information on other publications for sale.

In addition to the historical exhibits and a genealogy register where you can leave information on the ancestors you seek, the museum will hang three art exhibits this summer: photographer Bill Stone, June 4-July 12; pastel artist Judith Schuppien, July 16-Aug. 16; and watercolor artist Janice Spencer, Aug. 20-Sept. 30.

The society meets monthly, with the next gathering scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the museum on Route 1. It’s not hard to find, the public is welcome, and you’ll meet several knowledgeable genealogists.

Membership to the Milbridge Historical Society is just $5 a year, or $100 for a lifetime membership, sent to the address listed above.

Do check out the Web site and see what the society is up to.

The Cropley and Carr family reunion will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Brookton-Forest City Community Center in Brookton. Activities will include a potluck meal, memorabilia table and auction.

From the north, take Route 1 to Brookton. The community center will be on the left. From the south, take I-95 to Lincoln, Route 6 to Topsfield, and turn left onto Route 1 North to Brookton. The center will be on the right.

3326. WELCH-CRONIN. Seeking information on George Campbell Welch, b. April 30, 1848, Barnard. Married Catherine Mary Cronin, b. Oct. 24, 1847, Bangor, daughter of William Cronin. George and Mary eventually moved to Colorado, date unknown, and raised a family there. George’s parents unknown, but the name “George” runs in the family. Patricia Welch Olsen, 1482 East Raddon Drive, Sandy, UT 84092; e-mail xenastar@integraonline.com.

3327. NUTTER-NORWOOD-ANDREWS. Seeking parents, ancestry, family information for William Nutter of Penobscot, and his wife Polly, maiden name unknown. Their daughter Polly Nutter married July 14, 1811, Jonathan Norwood, b. Nov. 10, 1790, son of Stephen and Anna (Andrews) Norwood. Danny W. Howard 903, DECF 64 Base Road, Machiasport 04655.

3328. PEAKED MOUNTAIN-GRAY FAMILY. Am compiling data about our farm here on Peaked Mountain in Dedham, which has been in the family since Frank Gray, my great-grandfather, purchased it in 1868. The original farmhouse burned while my grandparents, Ellery and Ethel (Hughs) Gray owned it, and my parents (Bernot) built a home on the property in 1948. Would love to have copies of photos of this property showing the old home and barn standing. Also interested in any information about the property and the people who lived there in the past. Gail VanWart, 52 Ellery’s Lane, Dedham 04429; e-mail PeakedMtFarm@aol.com.
