Thorne provides early Mother’s Day gift

I am not a sports fan but I am a mother. So, when I was looking through Friday’s (May 6) BDN and saw the column “Mother’s lessons still hit home,” I stopped to read my first sport’s column. It was a wise decision.

Writer Gary Thorne is obviously one of the good guys out there in the sports world. He learned in his mom’s busy kitchen that it really is true that it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you not only play the game, but how you treat others while you are doing it.

Thorne’s ending to his column brought tears to this mother’s eyes. Thanks, Gary, for this early Mother’s Day gift.
