MAINE-LY CHILDREN

Energetic 13-year-old loves sports

Mykel, 13, is an active teenager who possesses a lot of energy and enthusiasm for life. An outdoor-oriented youth, Mykel is especially interested in learning about nature and science. He enjoys many activities and has become interested in bicycling, skateboarding, skiing and tae kwon do during the past year. He responds well to positive reinforcements.

Interested in video games, magic and shopping, Mykel also likes to ride his bike, play outside and play board games. He generally has a positive attitude about school and has a strong desire to do well academically.

Those who work closely with Mykel have found he does best in a structured, mostly self-contained classroom setting.

Mykel came into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in 2001 along with four siblings. He would like adoptive parents who are open to his interest in maintaining contact with his four siblings, with whom he now has sporadic phone contact and visits. He attends individual therapy to help him deal with anxiety and behavioral issues resulting from the challenges of his past, as well as the feelings of loss he experiences from his separation from his siblings and from several foster placement disruptions that he has experienced.

Adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.

Mykel is one of 226 Maine children in the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who is seeking an adoptive family. For more information about Mykel or other children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME at 1-877-505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
