ABBOT Parade, 10:30 a.m., Route 15.

AUGUSTA Public observance at Togus National Cemetery. Local veterans’ organizations, the Maine National Guard and Togus employees will participate in a wreath-laying to honor the 5,373 veterans buried in the cemetery. Participants will meet at 7:45 a.m. at Building 205 parking lot. Call Jim Doherty at 623-5714.

BANGOR Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of BankAmerica on Exchange Street. The parade, with Gov. John Baldacci, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and Galen Cole as honorary marshals, will proceed onto Harlow Street, then left onto Central Street and up Main Street to Davenport Park at the corner of Main and Cedar streets. A commemorative service will follow at the park. The reviewing stand will be in the parking lot of Merrill Bank on Main Street.

BANGOR The Memorial Day commemoration at Cole Land Transportation Museum at 405 Perry Road will be at 1 p.m. The program will include a talk by Tom Stryker, who piloted the Vietnam-era helicopter mounted on the grounds of the museum, and a wreath-laying at the Maine World War II Memorial, the Maine Vietnam Memorial and the Maine Purple Heart Memorial. The Hampden Academy jazz band will perform. Band parents will serve food from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. After the program, those attending will be admitted to the museum for free. In case of rain, the commemoration will be held inside the museum.

BANGOR Memorial Day Mass for area Roman Catholic churches will be held at 8:30 a.m., Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ohio Street. In case of bad weather, the location will change to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St. The event is sponsored by St. John’s and St. Mary’s in Bangor, St. Joseph’s and St. Teresa’s in Brewer, St. Matthew’s in Hampden and St. Gabriel’s in Winterport.

BANGOR Veterans Helping Veterans fund-raiser, SOS Breakfast, with creamed beef on toast, starting after the parade and ceremony at Davenport Park. Admission by donation, and proceeds will assist the family of Sgt. Harold Gray of Penobscot, a member of the Maine Army National Guard injured in Iraq.

BELFAST Parade will depart at 10 a.m. from the Renys parking lot, proceed to Grove Cemetery for services at Veterans Memorial, resume down Main Street through the city center and end at the waterfront. Frank D. Hazeltine Post No. 43 of the American Legion and the Randall-Collins VFW will provide marching units. Area veterans will conduct separate memorial services at monuments beside the Legion Hall, VFW building and the Veterans Memorial bridge before the parade.

BREWER VFW Post No. 4917 will hold ceremonies at Oak Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m., Woodlawn Cemetery at 11 a.m., and North Brewer cemetery at noon.

CARMEL Memorial Day services will be held at 11 a.m. Parade will form at Carmel Elementary School and march to the village cemetery, where American Legion Post No. 107 members will conduct a ceremony. Tammy Noyes will be the guest speaker, and the Hermon High School band will perform. A service will be held at the town’s Honor Roll monument in the village square. In case of rain, services will be held at the school.

CHARLOTTE The Charlotte Historical Society will sponsor a ceremony at 8:15 a.m. at the Round Pound Cemetery. The event will honor those serving their country and remember veterans interred in Charlotte. Brunch will be served at the town hall immediately after the ceremony. For information, call 454-7823.

CHERRYFIELD A program sponsored by the American Legion Post No. 8 will be held at 1 p.m., including a performance by the Cherryfield Band and a recitation of the Gettysburg Address. The program will be followed by a parade to lay wreaths at Stewart Park and at the Civil War Monument at 2 p.m. and a supper for the participants at 3 p.m. at the Legion Hall. CORINNA Parade sponsored by American Legion Post No. 73 will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the cemetery on Route 222. A ceremony will be held at the Main Street bridge, and the parade will proceed to the town hall. Music will be provided by the Sebasticook Valley and Somerset Valley middle school bands.

DENNYSVILLE Parade participants will assemble at 8:30 a.m. at the Dennysville-Edmunds Congregational Church. The parade then will march from the church to the Dennysville Cemetery.

DEXTER A parade will be assembled in the municipal parking lot in back of Bangor Savings Bank at 10 a.m. and proceed up Main Street, down to Church Street and into the Veterans Memorial Park. The American Legion and VFW will hold memorial services, and the Dexter Regional High School band will perform.

DOVER-FOXCROFT Memorial Day services will begin at 10:15 a.m. at Merrick Square flagpole, followed immediately by a parade, which will stop at the Main Street bridge and Monument Square for further ceremonies. The Bangor Army National Guard will provide a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, and the 101st Air Refueling Wing will provide a tanker for military flyovers. ETNA Memorial Day services will be held at 10 a.m. A parade will form at Etna Center on the corner of Routes 143 and 69 and Center Lane. Participants will march to Pleasant Hill Cemetery, where American Legion Post No. 107 will conduct a ceremony. Music will be provided by the SAD 38 band. Speaker is Tammy Noyes. In case of bad weather, the service will take place in the Etna School gymnasium.

FRANKLIN A ceremony will include a wreath-laying at 8:45 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial, located at the junction of Routes 182 and 200. The event is open to the public. After the ceremony, the Franklin Veterans Club will hold a hospitality function at the club.

GREENVILLE The American Legion will hold several Memorial Day services. A B-52 crash site service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29. Monday services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Rockwood Cemetery and 11 a.m. at the Francis Lavigne Memorial Bridge. A parade will line up at 12:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Greenville and begin at 1 p.m., and a parade in Shirley will line up at 2:15 p.m. at the fire station and begin at 2:30 p.m.

GUILFORD Memorial Day parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Route 15.

HAMPDEN A parade will begin at 9 a.m. at the VFW Post 4633 Home on the Canoe Club Road and proceed to the Locust Grove Cemetery, where services will be held.

HARTLAND A Memorial Day parade will begin in Hartland at 9 a.m. at the Hartland Tannery Annex, sponsored by the Steeves-McCormick American Legion Post 141. It will stop at the cemetery for taps and an honor guard salute, continue to Pittsfield Avenue Square for a second ceremony, then proceed to Warren Square. The Nokomis Regional High School band will perform.

HOULTON Ceremonies will start at 9:45 a.m. at Soldiers Hill in the Houlton Cemetery. A parade from Peoples Bank to Monument Park will begin at 10:35 a.m., with ceremonies on the North Street Bridge for those who have died at sea. A ceremony and silent prayer will begin at the park at 11 a.m., followed by speakers. A wreath-laying will also be held.

HOWLAND Lee Graham Post No. 97, the Leveille-Shorey VFW Post No. 9429, the Knights of Columbus Council 5524 of Lincoln-Howland and Company B of the Maine 20th Volunteers Civil War reenactment group will hold Memorial Day services at the following locations and times: Seboeis, 8 a.m.; West Enfield, 8:30 a.m.; Passadumkeag, 8:50 a.m.; Gould’s Ridge, 9:10 a.m.; Lowell, 9:40 a.m.; Enfield, 10:05 a.m.; Dodlin Road, 10:25 a.m.; Edinburg, 10:45 a.m.; and Howland, 11 a.m. A parade will assemble at the Howland Town Park at 11:30 a.m. and will start at 11:45.

ISLAND FALLS Parade will start at 1 p.m., starting at the Island Falls Municipal Building. The procession will march along Sherman Street and U.S. Route 1 before stopping at the Island Falls Cemetery for a memorial service.

JONESBORO A ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Jonesboro Elementary School gymnasium will feature local musical talent and recognition of veterans. A committee is surveying Jonesboro residents to identify all veterans in time for Memorial Day. Any resident veteran who has not yet been surveyed can contact Ed White at 434-2362.

NEWPORT A service for veterans will be held at the North Newport Christian Church at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 29. The annual parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Progress Park and proceed to Main Street to the Memorial Bridge. After ceremonies on the bridge, the parade will proceed to the American Legion Post 105 Hall by way of Elm and North streets. Somerset Valley and Sebasticook Valley middle schools will provide the music.

OAKFIELD A parade will begin at 10 a.m., starting out from the Oakfield Community Center. The procession will stop at the bridge for a memorial service before proceeding up the Ridge Road to the Oakfield Cemetery. A wreath will be placed on the war memorial.

ORONO Lineup for the parade will be at 8 a.m. at Orono High School. The procession will start at 9 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. at American Legion Hall on Park Street. Crossroad Ministries of Old Town will collect nonperishable food for the area food bank.

PATTEN The parade will begin at 10 a.m, proceeding to the cemetery down Main Street.

PITTSFIELD The Burns Knowlton American Legion Post No. 32 will sponsor a parade at 9 a.m., beginning at the Corner Cupboard on Main Street. The parade will proceed south on Main Street to the bridge, library, then onto Peltoma Avenue to the town cemetery. Music will be provided by the Warsaw Middle School band and the Maine Central Institute band.

PROSPECT A noon parade is planned with lineup at the intersection of Routes 174 and 1A by Ray Webb’s barn. Ceremonies at Maple Grove Cemetery will be held by American Legion Post No. 157.

ST. ALBANS A parade and ceremony will be held in St. Albans at 10 a.m., sponsored by the Steeves McCormick American Legion Post No. 141. The parade will assemble at Ace Hardware and proceed to Cemetery Road, then up Main Street to the town monument for the laying of a wreath. The Nokomis Regional High School marching band will perform.

SANGERVILLE The Memorial Day parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Route 23.

WARREN The Memorial Day procession will assemble in front of the post office and march to the village bridge, with a series of events, starting at 10:30 a.m.
