HERMON – Speedway 95’s officials finally managed to roll something other than their eyes Sunday as the first three races of the season were finally held after four straight racing weekends were washed out by rain.
The Super Street division got bragging rights as a full, 50-lap race ushered the new season in. Dean Smart of Bradley notched the win with D.J. Moody of Prospect and Joe Legere of Milford finishing second and third, respectively. Greg Pung of Franklin was fourth and Shane Tatro of Dixmont fifth.

Beech Ridge Speedway
At Scarborough, Mike Maietta Sr. posted his first NASCAR Pro Series victory since returning to the 1/3 mile oval at Beech Ridge Speedway Saturday night. At the drop of the green, Maietta charged to the front and never looked back despite repeated challenges from Steve Carrier and Bill Rodgers in addition to several yellow flags that evened out the field. Rodgers, rookie Mike Edgbert, Curtis Gerry and Bobby Babb rounded out the top five.

Unity Raceway
At Unity, Darren Doucette of Sidney won the first Sun Auto Mini-Truck Triple Crown Series race of the season on Saturday night, as he held off a strong surge from Justin Drake of Dover-Foxcroft and Kevin Nutting of Fairfield on the last lap of the feature
Doucette started on the outside pole and ducked underneath race-leader Randy Theriault of Waterville on lap five to take the lead for the first time. Nutting, who had been challenging Doucette for several laps, squeezed into the front-runner’s sport by inches after a lap 16 restart. On the final lap, however, Nutting suddenly spun onto the infield, allowing Drake to move into the runner-up position. Mike Rackliff of Starks finished thired with Eric Carnegie of North Vassalboro and James Towers of Rumford rounding out the top five.

Wiscasset Raceway
Mother Nature rained on Wiscasset Raceway’s parade once again as Saturday evening’s schedule was halted after the near-completion of the first race (Light A Demons) and Sunday’s action was also cut short. Wiscasset has only completed two shows over the first six weeks of the season.

At Winterport Sunday, rain failed to douse the opening day of racing at Winterport Dragway as Jerry Hatch of Lubec won the gamblers race ahead of runner-up Rick Wiseman of Blue Hill. Mike Piela of Lisbon Falls and Robin Reynolds of Winterport were semifinalists in the race.
