HAMPDEN – Shannon Wiggins cranked a bases-loaded triple to highlight Hermon’s five-run third inning and power the Hawks to a 5-4 softball victory over Orono.

Winning pitcher Ashley Kelley scattered four hits and struck out 11. She helped herself out with an RBI single.

Emily Balaban singled twice and drove in a run for Orono.

At Husson College in Bangor, the Golden Bucks exploded for 13 runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings en route to the shutout win.

Bucksport’s Terren Hall scattered four hits for the victory and helped herself with a two-run single and a double. Brittni Adams added a two-run single. Jill Richards doubled and hit two RBI singles.

Meaghan Brown singled twice for the Crusaders.

At Hampden, Mia Meguire allowed only two hits and a walk and struck out six to lead Mount Desert Island to victory.

At Brewer, Anna Corey hit a bases loaded double in the bottom of the second to tie up the game 5-5. Kate Hanlon followed with an RBI single to score Christine Thoms and give the Witches a win.

Jordan McLain helped hold off the Warriors, striking out 12, walking none and allowing only four hits. Corey finished with a single, a double and three RBI, while Hanlon had two singles. Thoms, McLain and Sarah Risser each doubled. Julie Lorenz added an RBI single.

Michelle Barden, Alyssa Bragdon, Danielle White and Kayla Easter had a single apiece for Nokomis.

Ellsworth wins two

At Ellsworth, Catie Cravens signled three times to drive in four runs as the Eagles flew by Caribou to win the first game 16-2. She struck out eight, while walking two and only allowing three hits to help Ellsworth win the second game 2-1.

In the first game, Tasha Manning had an RBI triple for the Eagles. Emily Miller allowed only two hits, walking three and striking out three.

Allison Richards singled twice for the Vikings.

In the second game, Manning doubled, singled and scored a run. Jenn Richter added two singled for Ellsworth.

Presque Isle sweeps Foxcroft

At Presque Isle, Katie DeLong singled, then scored the winning run on an error as the Wildcats took their first win from the Ponies in the bottom of the eighth inning 6-5. Then also won the second game, 7-2.

In the first game, DeLong finished with two singles. Danielle Grenier struck out 12, allowing five hits and walking one.

Kristina Weymaeth singled three times for Foxcroft Academy.

In the second game, DeLong singled three times and Beth Michaud singled twice for Presque Isle.

Sarah Anderson’s single was the Pony’s only hit.

At Bangor, Eric Anderson struck out 10, allowing four hits and one walk as Bangor took out the John Bapst Crusaders 3-1. Then Joe Robicheau allowed only three hits and three walks while striking out five to help Bucksport post a 9-4 win over John Bapst.

In the first game, Anderson, Brian Hackett and Ben Estebrook each singled twice for the Rams.

Sean Snyder had two singles for John Bapst.

In the second game, Nye Gifford singled twice and doubled once for the Golden Bucks. Eddie Robbins doubled an tripled, while Teddy Cooke had two singles.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou

At Ellsworth, late-inning heroics led to back-to-back 8-7 victories and helped the Ellsworth Eagles sweep a doubleheader with Caribou.

In the second game, Nick Hunnewell earned his first victory by entering the game in the fourth and pitching 4 1/3 innings of three-hit, one-run ball. He also drove home the game-winning run with a one-out RBI single to left, scoring Mike Smith from second in the seventh.

Smith and Hunnewell each had two singles.

Arick Jepson and Jon Noyes each hit two singles for the visiting Vikings. Anthony Adams hit a two-run double.

In the first game, Ricky Trombley scored the game-winning run from second on a sacrifice fly to cap a three-run rally in the sixth. Hunnewell hit an RBI single to score the first run of the inning and then scored from third on Trombley’s fielder’s choice grounder.

Andy Berry wound up with two singles and an RBI for the Eagles.

Adams and Jepson each had two singles for Caribou.

Presque Isle, Foxcroft split

At Presque Isle, Matt Carey doubled twice and singled twice as the Ponies split a double header with the Wildcats. Foxcroft won the second game 6-1 and Presque Isle took the first game 9-1.

Jon Catell added with two singles contributing to the win for Foxcroft. Caray had two strikeouts and two walks with two hit batters.

Tim Floyd had two singles and Matt McGlinn had a double for the Wildcats.

In the first game, Tim Morrison hit two singles with two RBIs to lead Presque Isle. Sam Mathers and Chad Lavway each had a single and two RBIs.

Foxcroft’s Josh Pelletier hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
