PEMBROKE – Dust off your sneakers, stretch your muscles and rub on your bug spray for the 14th annual Cobscook Bay 10K to benefit Down East Hospice.
Participants can run or walk the shores of Cobscook Bay, America’s easternmost saltwater bay and home to eagles, osprey and seals.
Participants’ efforts will support the Down East Hospice Center, the only volunteer program of cost-free comfort care to the terminally ill, the grieving and their families throughout Washington County.
The event will be held Sunday on U.S. Route 1, behind Antone’s Triangle Store. Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. The kids’ run begins at 9:15 a.m. and the 5K and 10K begin at 10 a.m. The course finishes at Reversing Falls Park on the western shore of Cobscook Bay.
There will be an awards ceremony and cookout picnic at the park.
A donation of a food dish would be appreciated.
Down East Hospice is looking for volunteers. The volunteers listen to the needs of the sick and dying and provide companionship and emotional support.
They also help with chores or run errands and coordinate outside resources and continued contact during bereavement.
Most hospice work occurs in the home, but it may also take place in a hospital or nursing home.
