Mount View principal seeks to return to guidance post

THORNDIKE – Mount View High School Principal Barbara Adams is expected to leave her job when the school year ends and take a position in the guidance office.

SAD 3 Superintendent Daniel Lee said Tuesday that Adams has not yet resigned, but has applied for an open counselor position in the school’s guidance office.

When the board meets June 13, Lee said, he will nominate a candidate to fill the open guidance position. That candidate is expected to be Adams.

The board votes on the superintendent’s nominations for positions.

Adams has worked for the district for more than 20 years, Lee said.

For most of her career, Adams was a guidance counselor. She has served as principal for five years, the superintendent said.

“She’s done a great job for us,” Lee said. “It just so happens we have an opening in the guidance office.”

If, as expected, Adams is confirmed for the guidance job, she would formally resign the principal post, Lee said.

An advertisement listing an anticipated opening in the principal’s job appeared in newspapers over the weekend.

About 500 students are enrolled at Mount View.

The district is planning to build a new building that will replace the Mount View complex, which houses an elementary and junior high school, in addition to the high school.

The new complex will house pre-kindergarten classes through high school. Construction, most of which is state-funded, will begin in the next two years.
