PRESQUE ISLE – Somebody made off with $60 in cash stashed inside a red metal can at the Salvation Army thrift store on State Street, according to the Presque Isle Police Department log.
An employee reported the burglary about 5 p.m. Sunday. Officer Craig Holder found that the perpetrator kicked in a cellar door to gain entry.
It appears that someone broke the padlocked door that led to the store’s basement, Holder’s report said.
Holder discovered that the cabinet that contained the can was unlocked, not forced open.
The thief left through a door, which had been secured by a two-by-four piece of wood, that leads to a trash bay, the report said.
Several employees had been by the store on Saturday to drop off items, but no one noticed the break-in until Sunday afternoon.
