BANGOR – Penquis CAP Inc. has a limited number of 1 percent loans from the Maine State Housing Authority for lead abatement in rentals built before 1951.

Tenants who have low to moderate income, with children under the age of 6, may qualify for this loan.

The Coalition of Environmentally Safe Communities also is offering a grant for up to $6,000 to owners who meet the guidelines.

Units must be located in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset or Kennebec counties.
