Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School

MARS HILL – Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School of Mars Hill has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2005. Commencement exercises will be held 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, in the school gymnasium.

Naomi Smith, daughter of Nathan and Ruth Smith of Blaine, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend Colby College to study government and history.

She has participated in many groups including National FFA, National Honor Society, YMCA Model State Legislature, TRUST team, French club, student council, class officer team, Christmas gift drive and varsity soccer. She has been FFA secretary and president, NHS public relations, stock market captain, and class president the last four years. Smith has received the Maine Principal’s Award, varsity soccer’s most valuable player and is currently Greater Miss Mars Hill. She has volunteered at the Special Olympics, Central Aroostook Mentoring program, Congressman Michael Michaud’s office and American Red Cross blood drives.

Jessica Chase, daughter of Ian and Judith Chase of Mars Hill, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study education.

She has been involved in the math team, YMCA Model State Legislature, French club, technology and varsity soccer. She has received her varsity letter for academic achievement, and received awards for chemistry, biology, geometry and perfect attendance. She has been recognized by Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Chase has volunteered with the Central Aroostook Mentoring program, American Red Cross blood drives, Special Olympics, as well as at church and the local library.

Nichelle Gray, daughter of Deborah Gray and Phil and Dawn Gray of Mars Hill, has been named first honor essayist. She will attend the University of Connecticut to study biology.

She has been involved in the FFA program both at local and state levels, holding offices of reporter, vice president and state treasurer. She participated in National Honor Society, Christmas Gift Drive, YMCA Model State Legislature, French club, student council, junior varsity basketball, varsity soccer, Varsity Club and yearbook editor. Gray has been involved in the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, Relay for Life, Youth by Design, and Down East Teen Leadership Camp.

Tory Bradbury, daughter of Dale and Barbara Bradbury of Bridgewater, has been named second honor essayist. She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

She has been involved in academic and athletic activities throughout her high school career. She has been a member of the French Club, National Honor Society and the Varsity Club. She has participated in basketball and varsity soccer. Bradbury has been recognized for her achievements at the Annual Academic Banquet, and with her academic varsity letter. Her volunteer activities have included assisting with Vacation Bible School, American Red Cross blood drives and the Christmas Gift Drive.
