SULLIVAN – Principal Michael C. Eastman has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2005 at Sumner Memorial High School.
Margaret L. Barter, daughter of James and Tanya Barter of Franklin, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend St. Olaf’s College in Minnesota.
She is a member of National Honor Society and French club. She participated in the mentoring program and has been a member of student council. She received the Phi Beta Kappa award, University of Rochester Humanities and Social Sciences award and Seven Sisters Book Award.
Sandra M. Klausmeyer, daughter of David Klausmeyer and Barbara Arter of Steuben, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono.
She is a member of National Honor Society, student council, serving as president of Eastern Region student council, math team, International club, and the mentoring program. She received the Society of Women Engineers Award and the DAR Good Citizens Award. She attended Northern New England Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and received a Hancock County Medical Mission scholarship to Ecuador. She has been a member of the varsity soccer, cross-country, varsity basketball, varsity softball and track and field teams. She was first team PVC in javelin and was given honorable mention to the PVC 2003 and 2004 basketball all-star teams.
Katelyn B. Parker, daughter of Michael and Heather Parker of Sorrento, has been named first honor essayist. She has been accepted at the University of Maine in Orono, Oklahoma City University and Columbus State University. She will study music.
Parker is a member of National Honor Society, International Club, the mentoring program, and is vice president of the senior class. She is a member of the varsity tennis team and participated in cabaret. She received the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award and the Discover Card Tribute award scholarship.
Lindsay A. White, daughter of Anne White of Winter Harbor and Mark White of Pennsylvania, has been named second honor essayist. She will attend Bowdoin College to study archaeology.
She is a member of National Honor Society, the mentoring program and French club. She participated in cabaret, track, art club and LINC art mentoring. She was a winner of the Steuben Historical Society Competition.
