Jonesport-Beals High School
JONESPORT – The faculty and administration of Jonesport-Beals High School have announced the honor parts for the Class of 2005.
Travis Weisberger, son of Dr. Steven and Teri Weisberger of Jonesport, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2005. He will attend Northeastern University in Boston to study computer engineering.
He became a member of the school honor society as a senior, has received many math awards, and has been recognized for academic distinction during his sophomore, junior and senior years. He attended Dirigo Boys State and received the U.S. history award in his junior year. He has been active in student council, serving as president during his junior and senior years. He has been a member of the yearbook committee during his senior year, varsity soccer team all four years of high school, and a member of the track team his senior year.
Weisberger has volunteered for the roadside cleanup and coastal cleanup all four years of high school. He also has participated in school functions including freshmen reception, junior auction and Cool Days.
Whitney Beal, daughter of Holly and Rickey Beal of Jonesport, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend the University of Maine at Augusta to study dental hygiene.
She has been academic- and sports-oriented throughout her high school years, playing volleyball, softball and basketball, and serving as captains of those teams. She received awards in English and science, and became a member of the school’s National Honor Society. She participated in Maine Youth Voices/Bridge Coalition and has helped with various activities at Jonesport-Beals.
Beal held the offices of secretary, vice president and president, respectively. A member of the honor roll, she attended early college classes at the University of Maine at Machias this fall and as a yearbook editor, she was responsible for student activities.
Bucksport High School
Principal Tom Sullivan of Bucksport High School has announced honor parts for the Class of 2005. Graduation will be at 6 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Ralph Jewett Gymnasium.
Delmore Adams, son of Pauline and Gary Adams, has been named valedictorian. He will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study mechanical engineering.
Adams has been active in wrestling, the outing club, drama and soccer as well as powerlifting outside the school curriculum. He was senior class president, president of the National Honor Society, member of the student council, Maine Principals’ Association award recipient, attended Dirigo Boys State, received the Peter Sweeney Citizenship Award and earned his Eagle Scout award.
Bethany Patten, daughter of Steve and Linda Patten, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend the University of Southern Maine to study photography.
Patten was a yearbook editor, National Honor Society treasurer, and secretary of the senior class. She traveled to the Grand Canyon and Big Bend National Park with the outing club, and was a Dirigo Girls State delegate. She competed in the triple jump for the indoor and spring track teams and ran cross country. She was first in Eastern Maine for Class C in 2002.
Alex Neslusan, son of Mark and Susan Neslusan of Bucksport, has been named first honor essayist for the Class of 2005. He will attend the University of Massachusetts at Lowell to study sound recording technology.
Neslusan is known through the community for his piano skills as well as for being involved with band, math team, soccer and drama club. He is a member of the band Scantily Plaid.
