BANGOR – An Etna man was sentenced Monday to 20 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Michael L. Frappier, 43, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to the charges in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Feb. 3.
On Jan. 3, officials from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department searched Frappier’s Bangor residence after his wife told police there was marijuana in a hall closet. A shotgun, rifle and ammunition were found on the premises.
Frappier was convicted in 1989 of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and in 1991 of eluding a police officer, which prohibited him from having guns and ammunition.
The case was part of Maine’s Project Safe Neighborhood Initiative, which aims to increase successful prosecution of firearms cases, and to educate potential offenders on the serious consequences of illegal gun use and possession.
