Pine Hill Golf Club in South Brewer has an interested buyer, according to Pam Foss, co-owner of the facility along with her sister Candice Morrill and brother Bob (J.R.) Little Jr.
They took over the golf club when their father, Bob Little, died in 2001.
“We have got someone looking at it,” said Foss on Monday.
The man and his wife, who Foss didn’t want to name without their permission, have been looking the property over for a month or so.
“He just came in one afternoon and asked to speak to the owner,” said Foss.
Talks have progressed from there.
“No money has changed hands, though, so if somebody comes in with a large amount of cash, it’s gone,” she added with a laugh.
The property is listed with a local real estate agency.
Foss said the asking price for the course is $950,000 and it has been listed since last August or September.
There is undeveloped land which would be part of the sale, and the prospective buyer would like to build condominiums or sell house lots on that section. According to Foss, his pre-purchase plans include doing a preliminary study on where the sewer and water lines are.
At one point, said Foss, he talked about just buying the undeveloped land, but Foss is firm that that scenario isn’t going to happen.
“When it’s sold, it’ll all be sold together,” she said.
People concerned about the future of the 43-year-old golf facility can rest easy.
“He wants to keep the golf course as a golf course,” said Foss, “which is part of the agreement.”
In 2002 and 2003, the sale of the course was the subject of rumors that Foss denied both times, saying that the plan was to continue running the course for 10 years and then re-evaluate.
But both Little and Morrill have their own jobs and family considerations that mean they can’t help out at the course as much as might be needed.
