Ashland Community High School
ASHLAND – David Deaton, principal of Ashland Community High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2005. Commencement exercises were held Friday, June 3, at the Bobby Goding Memorial Gymnasium.
Jeremy G.S. Baker, son of Melanie R. Baker of Ashland and Chad J.S. McPherson of Presque Isle, was named valedictorian for the Class of 2005. He will attend the University of Maine to study mechanical engineering.
He has been active in the National Honor Society, president of Future Farmers of America, captain of the soccer, baseball, and basketball teams and lettered as a member of the ski team. He was selected to the All-Aroostook soccer and baseball teams. He is a member of Who’s Who Among American Scholars and a recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Excellence in Science award. His community service includes the Red Cross blood drive, the National and World Biathlon and Community Ski Days.
Rudy Kyle Caron, son of Roland and Linda Caron of Portage Lake, was named salutatorian for the Class of 2005. He will attend Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. to study architecture.
He has earned the Eagle Scout award, citizenship award, participated in Boy’s State, the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. and placed second and third in the Voice of Democracy and Youth in Government. He was president of the National Honor Society and has earned the highest average in advanced mathematics, college biology, college chemistry, advanced algebra, anatomy, physiology, and French I and II. His community service includes the Red Cross blood drive, St. Mark’s Parish and Special Olympics.
Elizabeth Chamberlin, daughter of the Rev. Alan and Esther Chamberlin of Ashland, was named first honor essayist for the Class of 2005. She will attend Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass., to study nursing.
She has lettered and served as captain of the varsity soccer, softball and basketball teams, and was selected to the All-East soccer team. She was president of student council, vice president of National Honor Society, parliamentarian of Future Farmers of America, secretary to band and recipient of the principal’s award. Her community service includes a mission to Mexico with members of her church, Sunday school teaching and participation on the youth group leadership team.
Pamela Spooner, daughter of Gayleen Spooner of Ashland and Bradley Spooner of Sherman, was named second honor essayist. She will attend the University of Maine to study biology.
She served as secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of her class and participated in model state legislature, leaders educating against drinking, and has received the citizenship award. She served as captain of the basketball and soccer teams, has been an All-Eastern Maine selection in soccer, All-Aroostook all-star in both softball and soccer and most valuable player on the softball team.
