Thomas “Tip” Fairchild of the University of Southern Maine in Gorham was drafted by the Houston Astros on Tuesday in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound righthanded pitcher from Monmouth was the 374th pick overall.

Fairchild, a junior this spring, went 5-2 with a 1.80 earned run average for coach Ed Flaherty’s Huskies. He struck out 66 and walked only seven in 50 innings.
