BANGOR – Senior Airman Christopher Rodway, a member of the 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor, was recently honored as the wing’s airman selectee for the Maine Air National Guard Outstanding Airman of the Year award. He was one of the three finalists statewide for the award.

Brig. Gen. John Bubar, deputy adjutant general for the state of Maine, presented the honor during ceremonies held recently in Bangor.

Airman Rodway enlisted in the Maine Air National Guard in June 2002 and received the top graduate award while in technical training school at Sheppard Air Force Base. While at Sheppard, he was voted by his peers to receive the Knucklebuster Award for displaying leadership, academic excellence and peer help.

Rodway is enrolled in the engineering program at the University of Maine and is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering technology.

Despite a busy schedule, Rodway is active in the Down East Emergency Medical Institute, serving as a primary crew chief of its Bell UH-1H Huey helicopter. He is actively pursuing a private pilot’s license with the goal of becoming a pilot in the Air National Guard.

Rodway’s decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon and the Maine Academic Achievement Award.

Rodway graduated from Brewer High School and resides in Brewer.
