WESTON – Voters in Weston will be asked to approve a $140,000 municipal budget and elect representatives for town and school boards at their annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Margaret Frye, the town’s administrative assistant, said Tuesday that there are no major issues that residents will need to decide this year.
She noted that several factors have caused this year’s budget to increase more than $6,000 over last year.
“The increase is due to insurance, repairs and maintenance and general office expenses,” she explained. “The price of maintaining all of our insurance categories went up quite a bit, as did the cost of heating fuel. We also saw a slight increase in our snowplowing contracts. … But we have had no major increases other than that.”
The $140,000 figure does not include what the town will need to front for education, the Aroostook County tax or the homestead exemption.
Voters will also be asked to nominate candidates to fill two board positions, Frye said.
Nominations will be taken from the floor to elect one representative for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen.
A three-year position on the SAD 14 board is also up for grabs during the gathering.
The annual meeting will be held at the Weston town office.
